Since 2006, Our Lady of the Road has been holding space for hospitality and welcome in the form of meals, laundry, showers, donations, and conversation. Staffed by the members of the Catholic Worker community and a wide variety of volunteers, OLR seeks to provide cafe-style service to those who are living on the streets. The work is rooted in personalism, Gospel nonviolence, and the recognition of Christ's presence in every person, especially those on the margins of our community with unmet basic human needs.
This rootedness has allowed us to respond to the immediate needs of our friends experiencing homelessness with urgency, most notably in creating the Motels4Now program and as we continue to provide accompaniment and support to those who are living on the streets waiting for a spot to open up at M4N or another shelter.
